So, the "experts" are worried about Gen Z and emerging markets? Give me a break. It's not like the old guard has done such a bang-up job, right? We are constantly hearing about the gen z years age range and what are the gen z years but are they really that scary?

This whole idea that "youthful protestors have toppled governments" is supposed to scare investors. Like, oh no, not democracy disrupting the flow of capital! Please.

The article says these kids "grew up in a turbulent era: Trump and Brexit... Covid-19... Russia’s invasion." Yeah, no kidding. And who do they think is responsible for most of that? Boomers and Gen X clinging to power like grim death. So, excuse me if I don't shed a tear when Gen Z decides to shake things up.

Austerity Ain't Gonna Fly

The real kicker is this line: "Fixing this requires austerity, tax rises or both — never popular, particularly if a political class is regarded as corrupt, aged and out of touch."

No duh.

You think Gen Z is going to sit around and tighten their belts while some nonagenarian in Cameroon (or Washington, D.C., for that matter) lives like a king? That's not how this works anymore. The internet changed everything. They see the corruption, they smell the BS, and they ain't gonna take it. The idea that the genesis is on social media is something new...

And these protests are "harder to predict and to put down?" Good. Maybe that'll finally force some real change.

The Death-Obsessed Generation

It's not just about economics, either. These kids have a completely different relationship with, well, everything. I saw another piece talking about how Gen Z treats death "like an old friend." Which is dark, offcourse, but also kind of refreshing.

Boomers are terrified of "decline." Gen X is busy making spreadsheets for their funerals. Millennials are whining about "unlived potential" -- get over yourselves. Gen Z? They're worried about how they're going to die. School shootings, climate change, police violence...it's all front and center.

"Rich people get to die peacefully in their beds," some 20-year-old said. "The rest of us get to die in debt or in some mass casualty event."

Ouch.

Is it any wonder they're ready to burn the whole system down?

Then again, maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe this is just the usual cycle of generations hating on each other. Every generation has their quirks and their fears. But something feels different this time. The level of inequality, the speed of information, the sheer existential dread of climate change...it's a Molotov cocktail waiting to explode.

And investors are worried about "spontaneous, unpredictable political and social disruption?" Gen Z is going to test investors' mettle further They haven't seen anything yet.

So, What's the Real Story?

Look, I'm not saying Gen Z has all the answers. But they're asking the right questions. And if the old guard isn't ready to listen, they're going to get steamrolled. The market will follow.
